MENBO is happy to announce the 1st celebration of the newly born Day of the Mediterranean, created by the Member States of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), declaring 28 November as the Day of the Mediterranean to be observed from now on each year with a view to fostering a common Mediterranean identity while promoting intercultural exchanges and embracing the diversity of the region.
Dear colleagues and friends,
It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce the death of our great friend and colleague, Executive Director of the Mediterranean Water Institute (IME), Mr Hachmi KENNOU. Mr KENNOU, of Tunisian and French nationality, was one of the most recognized experts in the field of water, both in his country of origin and in the international sphere. A graduate in hydraulic engineering from the National Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse, he began his professional career in 1970. Formerly CEO of the National Sanitation Office in Tunisia, he was appointed Governor of the World Water Council in 2003, thereby coordinating the Transcontinental Mediterranean Process of the World Water Forum.
Today, we pay tribute to him for his extraordinary professional and personal qualities, for his humanism, his honesty and his dedication. We will keep an excellent memory as a person appreciated by all, faithful and enthusiastic.
Rest in Peace.
On the occasion of the celebration of the World Water Day on 22 March, the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) launched the Maghreb Non-Conventional Water Initiative (IMENCO) in order to address water scarcity in the Maghreb region.
On behalf of the Permanent Technical Secretary of MENBO, Mr Miguel Polo, we have the pleasure to announce here the celebration, last 5th March 2021, of the 95th Anniversary of the creation of the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation, the first hydrographic confederation created in the world whose operation is based on two fundamental principles: basin management and public participation.
